Congratulations, you got yourself an interview! Now What? Here’s how to ace your job interview

Yes, you’ve secured a job interview; but the hard work is far from over. Now it’s time to prepare thoroughly to ensure you make a lasting impression on your potential employer. Follow these 6 tips to ace your job interview and land your dream job.

  1. Research the company and role:

Gain a thorough understanding of the company, its culture, and the role you’re interviewing for, to demonstrate your genuine interest and showcase how you would be a good fit. Get to know the interviewer’s name and try to use it during the interview.

  1. Practise common interview questions:

Prepare responses to common interview questions and practice articulating them confidently. Remember to always tell the truth, speak slowly and clearly and correct yourself if you mess something up.

  1. Highlight Your Achievements:

Just as in your CV, Prepare specific examples of your achievements and experiences that align with the job requirements to showcase your suitability for the role. Highlight your strengths and weaknesses and how you can overcome them.

  1. Be on time and dress appropriately:

You might not need a suit and tie but consider dressing professionally and appropriately for the industry and company culture, to make a positive first impression. Arrive at least 15 minutes early to explore the place and find where you’re supposed to be, just in case.

  1. Ask Thoughtful Questions:

Prepare insightful questions to ask the interviewer, so that you demonstrate your interest in the company and role. This will also show the interviewer that you have done your research and are fully prepared.

  1. Be positive and enthusiastic

Start and end an interview with a smile and a handshake. Maintain eye contact throughout the interview and listen carefully. Before you leave, ask about the next step, thank the interviewer for their time and leave courteously. Follow up with a thank-you note and express your appreciation and your interest once again.

These are basic tips that can help you make the difference. By following them and preparing thoroughly, you can approach your job interview with confidence and increase your chances of success. Always remember to stay calm, be yourself, and showcase your skills and experiences effectively.
